The Trilateral Commission was created in 1973 by American businessman David Rockefeller (1915-2017) as a forum for discussion among decision-makers from North America, the European Union and Japan (hence the name "Trilateral").
According to its website, the Trilateral Commission is a non-governmental organization that brings together thought leaders from across sectors: business, political, academia, the media and civil society. Its members share "common values and a commitment to the rule of law, open economies and societies, and democratic principles".
Similar to the Bilderberg Meeting, the Trilateral Commission is a target of many conspiracy theories. In particular, it has been accused of being committed to establishing a single world government and implementing the "New World Order".
